Now, this is interesting...
Some scientists outside China worried about pathogens escaping, and the addition of a biological dimension to geopolitical tensions between China and other nations. But Chinese microbiologists celebrated their entrance to the elite cadre empowered to wrestle with the world’s greatest biological threats a couple of years ago.

Putting a Bioweapons research facility near a thriving metropolis of 10 million... that’s about as dumb as putting Plum Island lab outside of NYC. I’ve heard people saying it’s a possible bioweapon that’s been unleashed on accident, it would make sense considering all the precautions they are taking on the city. The entire city is locked down no travel in or out allowed. 17 out of 500 is a fairly high mortality rate. Thousands of times more than the flu.
Killing all your hosts doesn't do anything for the spread of your disease. You need the rate of infection at the very least to outstrip the rate of fatality.
Two Chinese megacities now under lockdown Huanggang (population 6 million) is now under lockdown, too. Ezhou has closed down major railway stations. This is getting serious.
And it seems even more cities are put on the line just now!
