A photo of the Sphinx at the Giza pyramids sparked widespread controversy on social media after some people wondered how the Sphinx’s eyes were closed without human intervention.

The original post, which has been shared over 6,000 times on Facebook, showcases different photos and videos of the ancient statue with its eyes seemingly closed.

According to early mythology if the Great Sphinx closes its eyes; several events will follow and will change the world in the coming period.
"If the Sphinx closed his two eyes, all the soldiers of the pharaoh would flee to the hideouts and never return, because Ra would return and mankind would be destroyed."

Meanwhile, neither the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities nor the Supreme Council of Antiquities has issued any official statement regarding the pictures circulating of the Sphinx on social media.
