In April 1969, while trying to rescue the crew of a downed helicopter, Bill Vandenbush was blown up by a bomb, taking the brunt of the blast in the face and down the right side of my body. It was at that time that he had an incredible near-death experience. Bill also had a shared Near-death experience with one of his soldiers who died by his side... A few minutes later, he was shot in the arm, chest, and neck by another soldier Bill has done countless interviews and conferences to help others heal by showing us how to live life with love and meaning. If you enjoyed the sharing of his experience please consider getting his book.

I was sent to a hospital ship in Danang after being wounded in Viet Nam while with B/1/1/1 in 1969. As I healed I was assigned to work an elevator aboard ship. I ferried the wounded coming in by chopper to the surgical unit in level four of the ship. I am not sure, but I believe it was the USS Repose. I remember a wounded G.I. that had suffered an explovive wound to the face as he was peppered with black freckles and explosion burns. I stopped feeling sorry for the pain I was in when I saw him. You see this casualty in a stretcher was in far far worse shape than I was. This story reminded me of you and can I can still see his face in my mind to this day. As one is dying we go through that light. I had a similar experience like yours. One minute one feels pain, heat, thirst, hunger, the ground and the next nothing but a mental high of peace of the best kind. I was snapped back to the heat, pain etc. by a slapping on my face by a Corpsman, saying "come on stay with me". I too, danced with that Firey Dragon.
